The Last Day

We walk to the Alcazar Palace where we have a tour. Again, I wonder how they did that. [Did what? – needs clarification]  I tour the gardens while my mom has -- you guessed it -- ice cream. We are having our last dinner together this evening. My mom needs to get her hair done, so the folks at the hotel make her appointment. How does one say, "I want you to put orange and purple tinting in her hair" in Spanish?

Later on, I go up to the pool where I enjoy a lovely drink and finish reading a book called " Driving Over Lemons," by Chris Stewart. He is an expat from Britain who was one of the founding members of the rock group Genesis. He now lives near Orgivia, Spain, and has an organic farm there. While I hang out by the pool, I strike up a conversation with a couple from Connecticut. They live an hour from where I was brought up.  I mention the book that I am reading and the author. The husband of the couple says that his mom lived in Spain and dated Chris Stewart during a summer when she lived there. Six degrees of separation?  Maybe three degrees! Go figure.

That evening we are picked up by horse drawn carriages. As we travel to our restaurant, we pass the pavilion where the 1929 World's Fair was held. Javier pours some rose for us as we travel along Maria Luis Parc.

Toasts are made, addresses are exchanged, and many thank-yous are said to our guide, Javier. He has a wealth of knowledge of history, culture, food, and society. Our group was so fortunate, not only to have each other, but to have a guide like Javier who was so willing to share his country with us.
